Scripted Story Podcast, April 8 Progress Report

My current progress for the scripted story podcast due on April 21st, 2025 is completing 4 interviews with current student athletes at the University of New England. Two of them being freshmen on the women’s lacrosse team, one of them being a junior on the men’s lacrosse team, and the last one being a freshman on the women’s soccer team. I asked them the same question as my prompt which was “What are your opinions on the UNE food options for student athletes? What changes need to be made to the UNE food options for student athletes?” I have received about 5 minutes of content. My next step is to interview a few more athletes from different sports teams, the nutritionist and coach on campus, and one of the parkhurst dining workers, to get a wide range of opinions. Overall, I am in a good position at the moment where I am getting more interviews to complete that portion of the project, and then will be adding my voice and sounds.

Some sounds I want to include are some serious music when it’s needed and then upbeat when it’s not serious. At the moment I dont have picked out because I need to hear my interview fully to get the vibe of the music.

Expert Interview

I decided to interview my lacrosse coach Bridgett Lawless because she played division 3 college lacrosse when she was in school, and knows first hand what it takes to play at the college level. My overall goal from this interview was, wanting to construct a podcast for future student athletes who want to play lacrosse in college but don’t have some inside knowledge. The questions that I started with all ties into what the UNE women’s lacrosse program is all about. The first portion of the interview starts with the team aspects from the coaches perspective. Where I asked questions likeWhat are the core values of your program, and how do you instill those in your players? What is your coaching staff’s role in supporting players’ academic and athletic success? How do you foster team chemistry and unity among players, especially with a mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen? These questions are all great to know as a future college athlete because it allows you to know how the team works before being a part of it. And the second part included answers to the question; What are some mistakes that recruits commonly make during the recruitment process? This is one of the most important questions that has a great answer that Coach Lawless replied to, she mentions the fact that this specific program starts their recruiting process as early as junior year of high school, so starting early is very important if you want to play for the UNE womens lacrosse team. She also mentioned that being professional with communication is also important. Overall, this interview is meant to help not only for others to know more about the insight of the UNE womens lacrosse program, but also for future college athletes to be more knowledgeable of how to get recruited.

Scripted Story Blog Post #1

My story’s driving question: What effects does the UNE food services have on student athletes as well as what changes need to be made to benefit the UNE student athletes.

This story is not about: A specific group/sport of UNE student athletes, it involves most sports and even nutritionists.

How will I ensure my story is fair to the people and ideas it represents: This scripted story is primarily about UNE students athlete’s. My plan is to interview 1 student athlete from a majority of every team to keep the fairness and opinions open.

How will I engage my audience and what are some crucial sonic elements in my story: I plan on keeping my audience engaged in this podcast by using student athletes, nutritionists, and coaches who are interested in this topic. Choosing these interviewees will keep my podcast opinion open, and make it interesting. My sonic element to this story is using student athlete’s as my main interviewees. This topic will relate to student athletes, so interviewing other student athletes will allow for the listeners to engage and relate.

What do I want my audience to remember? I want my audience to remember the impact that nutrition has on student athletes but also the wide opinions that strike on this topic, with hope that something will change.

Audio Playground 5

In this audio playground, I talked about the feeling of getting ready for senior prom. Senior prom is exciting for many reasons, last dance, last time getting dressed up with your friends, and nearing the end of your high school journey. There’s a lot of exciting things that go on during your senior year, and prom is one of the biggest ones. It’s a time where everyone is eager to see eachother with the long formal dresses, the venue decorated to the designated these, and overall the time and effort it takes to go to prom.

In my experience that I talked about in the audio playground. Being able to wear a long formal dress that fits my own personality without anyone judging, is the best feeling. I talked about how I wanted to wear a white dress, which was one I’ve wanted for many years. I also mentioned the process of getting ready. I wanted my hair to be straight with a slight bounce curl at the ends to give a simple blowout look, and my makeup being a simple smokey eye and a bronzy face, made me feel classy. And the heels being a nude color with minimalistic jewelry that matches the gems on the side of the dress. Overall, I wanted every detail to be simple, so the dress can be the main statement.

With prom being a mixture of anticipation and excitement, everyone wants to make sure their hair and makeup (if you do any) looks the best it ever has. The time and dedication of working on trials for the hair and makeup for months all comes down to one night. After getting all ready, I was excited to start a night I would never forget because, the night ahead is full of laughter, dancing, and a sense of closure of celebrating with your friends just before graduation.

Notes on background information about Bridget Lawless:

1-2 Expert Interview Possibilities – CMM 225

One expert that I want to interview is Bridgett Lawless who is the Women’s Lacrosse Coach at UNE. I want to interview coach lawless because I am interested in hearing the background logistics of being a head lacrosse coach for a college team. But not only that I am interested in being a coach myself. Some background information I should collect before constructing the interview would be,

-Did Coach Lawless play in college?

-How long has Coach Lawless been a college lacrosse coach?

I can find this information by asking her before the interview takes place, or through social media.

Another expert that I would like to interview is Noelle Lambert, who is a 2x Paralympian and motivational speaker. I want to do this interview because I attended one of Noelles motivational speeches where I was inspired. Hearing that she overcame losing her leg to still playing D1 lacrosse, being a paralympian and going on season 43 of Survivor, I wanted to know more about her. Some background information I should collect before constructing the interview would be,

-Knowing the whole story of how she lost her leg, so I am able to base my interview off primarily her feelings.

-Having a theme, not just a story telling.

I can find this information by social media, or through communication before the interview is held.

Family Interview Podcast

The person I have chosen for this interview is my mother Carri. Carri is a VA nurse where she has been doing this job for many years. She graduated from SMCC with her BSN/RN and a few years ago, graduated with her masters from SNHU. My mother has been my biggest inspiration since I have been wanting to follow in her footsteps all my life.

One reason I chose my mother for this interview is because I wanted to hear more about her process of wanting to become a nurse. My mother has never had another job, when she started working, she worked as a CNA and was continually helping others since she was able to make money. I want others to hear that becoming a nurse is something that’s more than making money, and it takes someone important to do it.

Another reason I chose my mother for this interview is because Nursing takes a lot of hardwork and dedication to do. The schooling is tough, so I want to see more of the process of the challenges of nursing school, but also how different it might have been in the 90s. And throughout her nursing career, has there been a specific moment that she has felt a sense of accomplishment that might have changed her perspective of being a nurse.

The last reason I chose my mom for this interview is because I wanted people to hear that you can do so much more with nursing than most think. It’s not like other jobs where it’s a repetitive job. You’re able to change the field you are in. For example, my mom was a VA nurse, she now works from home for the caregiver support programs for the VA. I also wanted to hear her advice as her own daughter will be joining the same career path as her.

Overall, my mom being one of my biggest inspirations, I am curious to dive deeper into why she wanted to be a nurse, moments of accomplishments or doubts, how roles can change, and so much more things that go into being a nurse.

Audio Playground 3

In this podcast, I explained most things I want to accomplish this summer. With summer being my favorite season, I want to make the most of my time I have at home, being with my family and friends, because after the long school year, I do not get to see them as much. I also want to make the most of the long 8 hour work days, because I am blessed to have a job that boosts my vitamin D, but also gives me lifelong friends. Experiencing concerts is another thing that I can’t wait to do this summer. Fun fact concerts are my favorite activity to do especially during the warm summer months. I love the energy that comes with concerts. Another thing I want to accomplish this summer is creating more content, I love looking back at memories from past times, and another fun fact is I vlogged my entire senior year of highschool because not only do I or my friends love looking back at the memories, but also my parents love to see the memories because they don’t get to experience the crazy late night drives, or fun trips I take anymore. Last way I want to experience summer this year is going on sunrise runs multiple times a week. Running has always been a passion of mine, and sunrises are one of my favorite views. The feeling of being free and the colorful sky view, makes the start of my day better. And being able to have my own responsibilities of exercising is something that I enjoy. Overall, this summer is going to be one that I hope I never forget, and with that I hope this podcast helps others gain ideas so they can have an adventurous, relaxing, and productive summer, before the cold months come back. Thank you for listening.

Rodecaster Demo Assignment

On March 6th, 2025 I attended the Roadcaster Demo in the new Podcasting room in Decary Hall at UNE. During this 40 minute demo, I learned how to appropriately use the equipment to record a multi-person podcast fast and efficiently. When we first arrived the instructor showed us how to use the equipment as well as how to directly put the recordings right onto Garageband. After that, the instructor allowed the 4 of us who attended to make our own podcast, to see how it all worked together. We made a podcast reflecting on the most popular documentary that just came out about the Youtube family called 8 Passengers.

I am highly interested in using this space in the future, because I found it very fun and useful. I am planning on using this podcast device for the rest of my podcasts. I liked how you can hear everyone clearly whether it was while someone else was speaking or not. I also feel it is a lot more organized than the smaller audio podcast devices. When we recorded our podcast as a group, we could hear each other clearly and it helped for a better quality podcast. We could hear our small laughs but it didn’t overpower the entire podcast. After our 10 minute podcast finished recording, the instructor explained some ways to improve our podcast, which helped me realize how important some portions of the podcast were. Like explaining to the listeners exactly what needed to be said so all the listeners can understand what we are talking about.
